Los Angeles is preparing to make history as it becomes the third city ever to host the Summer Olympic Games for a third time. LA28 has revealed a wide-ranging list of venues across the region that will spotlight the city’s dynamic energy, iconic landmarks, and sporting legacy to a global audience.
A Citywide Olympic Experience
LA28’s updated plan, recently approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), outlines a decentralized approach, utilizing existing facilities and well-known locations throughout Los Angeles County—from beaches and city centers to valleys and theme parks.
Mayor Karen Bass emphasized the city’s commitment to a truly inclusive and geographically diverse Olympic experience, saying that neighborhoods from the Sepulveda Basin to Venice Beach will be part of this international showcase.
Key Olympic Venues and Sports Highlights
Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area
This San Fernando Valley site will host Olympic events for the first time ever. High-energy competitions including 3×3 basketball, modern pentathlon, BMX freestyle and racing, and skateboarding (both park and street) will be held here.
Universal Studios Lot
Squash will make its Olympic debut on the famous Universal Studios Lot, adding a cinematic touch to the competition atmosphere.
Venice Beach
The triathlon, previously in Long Beach, will move to Venice Beach. This popular coastal spot will also serve as the starting point for marathon and road cycling courses.
USC Sports Center
Rhythmic gymnastics will be hosted at USC’s premier facility, which will also stage badminton events.
Peacock Theater and Arena in Downtown L.A.
Boxing will return to the Olympic program with preliminaries at Peacock Theater and final matches at the Arena. These venues will also feature artistic gymnastics, trampoline, and weightlifting.
Dodger Stadium
Baseball is back in the Olympics—and it’s returning to the legendary Dodger Stadium.
Trestles Beach in San Clemente
Surfing will take place at Trestles Beach, offering a quintessential Southern California vibe.
Pomona Fairgrounds
Cricket returns to the Olympic Games for the first time in over 100 years, hosted at a temporary venue at the Pomona Fairgrounds.
Long Beach Venues
Alamitos Beach will showcase beach volleyball, while coastal rowing and open water swimming will take place nearby. The Convention Center Lot will host sport climbing and target shooting.
Shotgun Center in South El Monte
Shotgun shooting disciplines will be conducted here in a purpose-built venue.
Carson Sports Complex
The city of Carson will host archery and rugby sevens tournaments within its sports facilities.
Honda Center in Anaheim
Anaheim will step into the Olympic spotlight for the first time, hosting indoor volleyball at the Honda Center.
Santa Anita Park in Arcadia
Equestrian events will return to this iconic racetrack, which also hosted the sport in the 1984 Games.
