Shocking Discovery in Victorville Triggers Emergency Response
A bizarre and disturbing incident in Victorville, California, led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man after a teddy bear that appeared to be made of human skin was found outside an AMPM convenience store. The unsettling object immediately raised alarm and drew national attention before authorities confirmed it was a realistic horror prop.
Artist Behind Bear Says It’s Fake—and Made of Latex
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as Hector Corona Villanueva, who was taken into custody for falsely reporting an emergency and planting fake evidence. The teddy bear was initially mistaken for an object made of real human skin, prompting a full emergency response and forensic investigation.
However, the coroner’s office later determined that no human remains were involved, and the bear was constructed entirely of synthetic materials.
Horror Artist Claims Responsibility for Creation
South Carolina-based special effects artist Robert Kelly, founder of Dark Seed Creations, revealed in an interview that the teddy bear was one of his handmade props, crafted from latex and designed to resemble stitched human skin for haunted attractions and horror fans.
Kelly confirmed he had recently shipped the bear to a customer in Victorville and had no idea it would become part of a criminal investigation. “I guess I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying it a little,” Kelly admitted. “I’m an independent artist, and attention helps—but I certainly don’t condone scaring the public like that.”
Legal Consequences and Public Safety Concerns
While the bear turned out to be an elaborate fake, the sheriff’s department emphasized that the incident consumed valuable emergency resources, potentially delaying responses to real emergencies. They thanked community members for promptly reporting the suspicious item, which helped in the swift resolution of the case.
Villanueva could face serious charges for knowingly causing a false alarm and attempting to deceive law enforcement with staged evidence.
The ‘Human Skin Teddy Bear’—Now Internet Famous
The prop, known as the “human skin teddy bear,” retails for $165 on Dark Seed Creations’ online store and is part of a horror-themed product line popular among collectors and haunted house designers.
Though it’s only latex and paint, its disturbing realism has now brought unexpected fame—and a legal case—to both the buyer and the artist behind the creation.
