Over 30 Injured After Vehicle Rams Crowd Outside East Hollywood Nightclub
In a shocking incident early Sunday morning, more than 30 people were injured when a driver plowed his car into a crowd outside The Vermont Hollywood nightclub in East Hollywood. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez, was reportedly kicked out of the club around 2 a.m., then returned minutes later behind the wheel of his Nissan Versa.
Authorities say he made a U-turn and intentionally drove onto the sidewalk, striking clubgoers, food vendors, and valet attendants gathered outside.
Suspect’s Motive Linked to Revenge and Alcohol
Senior LAPD officials believe that Ramirez’s rampage may have been driven by revenge, fueled by anger and intoxication. Toxicology tests are underway to determine if Ramirez was under the influence of alcohol at the time. He has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and DUI charges may follow depending on the test results.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed that at least 36 people sustained injuries, including broken bones, lacerations, and other trauma. Fortunately, all victims, including the suspect, are in stable condition.
Chaos Erupts as Driver Is Beaten and Shot
After the crash, chaotic scenes unfolded. Bystanders pulled Ramirez from the vehicle, punching and kicking him. Amid the frenzy, an unidentified man crossed the street and shot Ramirez in the buttocks before fleeing the scene.
LAPD is now actively searching for the shooter, described as a bald Hispanic male, about 5’6″ tall, weighing between 150 and 170 pounds, with a goatee and gauges in both ears. He was last seen wearing a blue Dodgers jacket, a light blue jersey with the number five, and blue jeans.
Public Asked to Help Identify Armed Suspect
Police have released a photo of the alleged shooter and are urging the public to come forward with any information. The man remains at large, and LAPD is treating the shooting as a separate assault case.
Anyone with details is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department.
Witnesses Describe Horrifying Scene
Witnesses recounted the terrifying moments just before the crash:
“We were just standing there, a few people back from the front, and suddenly we heard a loud bang. Everyone started ducking—at first we thought it was gunshots. Then we saw the car had slammed into the crowd. People were bleeding, lying on the ground. It was total chaos,” one bystander said.
The violent incident prompted a mass emergency response, with 124 firefighters deployed to manage the scene and tend to the wounded.
Investigation Ongoing
As LAPD continues its investigation, both Ramirez and the still-unidentified shooter face serious charges. The case highlights ongoing concerns about club safety, revenge-driven violence, and the unpredictable nature of alcohol-fueled crimes in major urban areas like Los Angeles.
