Couple Seriously Injured in East Hollywood Crowd-Ramming Incident

A terrifying car crash in East Hollywood over the weekend left 37 people injured, including eight with serious wounds. Among them were local hot dog vendors Nicolas Suarez and his wife Maria Medrano, who are now speaking out for the first time about their harrowing experience.

Husband and Wife Describe the Shocking Moment

Nicolas Suarez and Maria Medrano were operating their hot dog cart near a popular nightclub when a vehicle suddenly rammed into the crowd. According to Suarez, he saw the car plowing into people before it struck both him and his wife.

“I just remember lying on the ground, face-up, with the car close by,” he recalled.

Suarez sustained a broken leg, a fractured ankle, and severe bruising. Medrano suffered injuries to her shoulder, ribs, and arm, along with head trauma. She continues to experience chest pain days after the incident.

Livelihood Destroyed: Hot Dog Cart Reduced to Rubble

The couple’s hot dog cart, their main source of income, was completely destroyed in the crash. Replacing it will cost an estimated $600. Their children have since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical bills, physical therapy, and the cost of a new cart.

Family Grateful for Survival, But Recovery Will Be Long

“We’re just thankful they’re still with us,” said their daughter, Sarah Suarez. “They’re recovering, but it will be a long road. They love what they do, and we’ll keep supporting them every step of the way.”

Suspect in Custody with History of Violent Offenses

Authorities have identified the suspect as 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez from San Clemente. He has been charged and is currently being held without bail. Investigators suspect that both alcohol and anger were contributing factors in the crash.

Public records show Ramirez has a criminal history, including convictions for battery, assault, petty theft, and child abuse.

Community Rallies for Local Vendors

As the couple begins the road to recovery, their family and community are rallying behind them. The GoFundMe effort continues to grow as supporters hope to help them rebuild not only their business but also their lives after this senseless act of violence.
