A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a violent hit-and-run crash in San Bernardino that left a baby and a toddler with serious injuries. Police confirmed the arrest early Friday morning following days of investigation and a public plea for information.
Baby in Stroller Dragged 350 Feet After High-Speed Collision
The crash occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Arrowhead Avenue and 27th Street. According to police, two adult women and six children were crossing the street when a speeding vehicle slammed into a baby in a stroller and a 3-year-old child.
The force of the impact threw the toddler to the ground while the infant remained strapped inside the stroller. Authorities said the stroller was dragged more than 350 feet before the driver finally stopped.
Investigators reported that once the stroller became dislodged, the driver maneuvered around it and sped away from the scene without offering help.
Community Tip Leads to Arrest
After requesting assistance from the public, investigators received a critical tip from a community member that aligned with the evidence gathered in the case.
Detectives identified Chester Lamont Gordon, 27, as the suspect. Officers arrested him around 4 a.m. Friday after spotting him backing the suspected vehicle out of his garage.
Gordon faces charges related to hit-and-run and reckless driving.
Family Fundraiser Launched
The children remain in critical condition. A fundraising campaign has been organized to support the family with medical expenses and ongoing recovery needs.
