When Nardiz Cooke discovered a lump in her right breast in late 2018, she was told it was only fibrosis. At age 38, with no family history of breast cancer, the diagnosis seemed reassuring. But nearly two years later, Cooke began experiencing alarming new symptoms: intense headaches, sudden vomiting, tinnitus, double vision, and temporary loss of sight that once lasted almost 40 minutes.

During her first radiation treatment, Cooke noticed the custom thermoplastic mask used to keep her head still during therapy. Rather than seeing it as something frightening, she imagined it as a future trophy — a symbol of survival.
Over two years, she underwent multiple forms of radiation. When the treatments ended in late 2022, she took both masks home. Months later, she began decorating one with shimmering quartz crystals.
