Tesla Plans Software Update for Chinese Market
Tesla is preparing to roll out a software update in China that will enhance its vehicles’ driving-assistance capabilities, enabling smoother navigation on city streets. According to a company notification and sources familiar with the matter, the update will bring a localized version of Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance system to Chinese users.
Premature Announcement Retracted
On February 24, Tesla briefly notified Chinese users about the upcoming software update but retracted the announcement within minutes. Posts on Chinese social media revealed the notice had been mistakenly sent out ahead of schedule. Sources later confirmed that the notification was authentic but released prematurely.
Limited Features Compared to US Version
Unlike Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature available in the United States, the version set to launch in China will have fewer advanced capabilities. Due to limited data training on Chinese roads and traffic regulations, the update will not offer the same level of autonomy as its US counterpart.
Tesla’s Response and Market Implications
Tesla has yet to officially comment on the update, but the planned feature suggests a step toward improving its autonomous driving technology in China. As the company continues refining its software, future updates may bring more advanced navigation capabilities tailored to Chinese road conditions.
