Baby Emmanuel Haro Presumed Dead After Abuse
Authorities in Riverside and San Bernardino counties are investigating the tragic case of baby Emmanuel Haro, a 7-month-old who is presumed dead. Officials stated that Emmanuel likely succumbed to prolonged abuse by his parents before they falsely reported that he had been abducted.
Riverside County District Attorney Mike Hestrin, along with local law enforcement, confirmed that while Emmanuel’s body has not yet been recovered, they have a strong indication of where his remains may be located.
False Abduction Report
Emmanuel’s mother, Rebecca Haro, initially reported that she and her baby were attacked in a Big 5 parking lot in Yucaipa on August 14. She claimed that the infant had been kidnapped. Investigators later determined that this abduction claim was fabricated.
Authorities noted that both parents ceased cooperating with investigators shortly after the initial report, raising further suspicions.
Parents Charged With Murder
Both Rebecca and Jake Haro have been charged with murder in connection with Emmanuel’s death. The parents appeared briefly in court, and a $1 million bail was set for each. Their arraignment is scheduled to continue on September 4. Additionally, they face charges for making a false police report.
Rebecca Haro is currently held at the Robert Presley Detention Center, while Jake Haro is at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.
Previous Abuse Case
District Attorney Hestrin highlighted a past case in which Jake Haro pleaded guilty to child abuse involving another infant from a previous relationship. That child suffered severe injuries and was left bedridden. Despite the severity, Jake Haro received probation and work-release instead of prison, which Hestrin criticized as an “outrageous error in judgment.”
Hestrin emphasized, “If that judge had acted appropriately, Emmanuel might still be alive today.”
Next Steps in the Investigation
Law enforcement continues to search for Emmanuel Haro’s remains and is actively pursuing leads. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to assist with the investigation.
This case underscores the critical importance of child safety, vigilance in reporting abuse, and thorough law enforcement response to potential child endangerment cases.
