A 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near the mountain town of Julian, just east of San Diego, sending tremors across Southern California. Residents in parts of Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, Palm Springs, and the San Fernando Valley reported feeling the shaking.

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed the epicenter was about 2.5 miles south of Julian. The region experienced several aftershocks in the 2 to 3 magnitude range.

In Chula Vista, one woman described the quake as feeling “more like an explosion” at first, followed by rocking motions. Students at Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa also reported being startled by the tremors, with one student experiencing it while asleep in her car.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage. Seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones commented that such a quake typically causes minimal damage unless structures are already compromised.
