Mother of Three Found Dead After Going Missing in Lancaster
Authorities confirmed that 33-year-old Sheylla Gutierrez, a mother of three from Lancaster, was discovered dead in the Angeles National Forest. Deputies believe her husband is the prime suspect and has fled to Peru with their children.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Gutierrez had been missing for over a week before her body was found wrapped in fabric, dumped off an embankment in the forest.
Husband Suspected in Murder Escapes to Peru
Investigators identified the suspect as 36-year-old Jossimar Cabrera, Gutierrez’s husband. Surveillance video shared by a neighbor allegedly shows him dragging a large, fabric-wrapped object. Days later, Gutierrez’s body was found under similar circumstances.
According to the Peruvian consulate, Cabrera entered Peru with the couple’s three children. Because there was no arrest warrant issued at the time, local authorities were unable to detain him.
Family and Neighbors Demand Justice
Gutierrez’s mother, Helga Rocillo, who remains in Peru, is pleading with U.S. authorities to bring Cabrera to justice. She revealed that her daughter had previously reported her husband for domestic violence in Peru, and was preparing to file another report in Lancaster before her disappearance.
At a community vigil in Lancaster, friends and neighbors gathered to honor Gutierrez. They held signs reading “Justice for Sheylla” and “Not One More”, describing her as a devoted mother, a hard worker, and a loyal friend.
Children Now in Care of Grandmother
Gutierrez’s three children are now staying with their maternal grandmother. Meanwhile, investigators continue their work to determine the exact cause of death.
Community members and advocates stress the importance of justice in Gutierrez’s case, calling for stronger protection against domestic violence and accountability for those responsible.
